Building the Co-op›
They began by buying dry cocoa beans from the government cocoa board. After a few months, though, they partnered with one big cocoa farm, Belmont Estate, very close to the factory, and helped to certify it organic.
For about 4 years Belmont Estate was the only cocoa supplier. Then, with the need for more chocolate production and more organic cocoa supply, they started The Grenada Organic Cocoa Farmers’ Coop. which owns shares in The Grenada Chocolate Company. They now have 9 organic cocoa farms in the cooperative.
