Chocolate Santander is the only single origin chocolate produced in Colombia.
From the heartland of Colombia, where the best coffee grows, comes also one of the finest cacao in the world.

We feel it is important to support local farmers and the local production of chocolate . Breaking the cycle of "poor farmer" with "rich western manufacturers". This fine cacao originates and is produced in Colombia. One of the most interesting cacao growing areas in Colombia is in the Magdalena valley, sandwiched between two spurs of the Andes, in the Department of Santander.

Over the mountains to the east is Sur del lago in Venezuela, home of Porcelana and the source of many other great Venezuelan varieties. The genetics of the cacao in Santander are closely related to Venezuelan criollo, making this an exciting bean source for fine chocolate.


For over half a century this company has been promoting good cultivation practices among growers like the use of organic fertilizers, species improvement and soil protection through adequate shading in planted forests that protect water sources and mountain slopes. Surely one of the most beautiful locations for growing cocao, which we believe must be reflected in its flavour profile.

Melt has used Santander chocolate for many years now as we like to promote not only the local growing of cocoa but also the local production of the chocolate. This is important because more money is available to the farmers and countries which often suffer from high levels of poverty. Skills are developed in the producing country and investment can be made in training, schools and basic infrastructure. Also, and importantly in Colombia, cacao is a legal alternative to some other stimulant substances that cause problems and corruption across the world.
